ST. LOUIS ? A St. Louis couple forced to put matrimonial plans on ice because of Thursday?s messy winter storm ?got hitched Friday?.
Audrey Kinsler, 30, and her fianc?, Dru Orion, 34, of ?St. Louis tried to get their marriage license at City Hall on Thursday morning but were turned away when offices closed because of the storm. They left worried because they needed the license before holding a small ceremony with friends planned for Saturday.
Mayor Francis Slay heard of their thwarted plans Thursday and tweeted an apology, wishing them better luck the next day.
Kinsler regretted waiting until so close to the ceremony, and called ?ahead ?Friday morning to make sure the storm hadn?t shuttered City Hall for a second consecutive day. The building was open.
But instead of just picking up the license, the couple took no chances and decided to tie the knot at the courthouse across the street.
?I was very happy,? she said. ?There was no line or anything.?
A few friends and family members joined them and watched as Associate Circuit Judge Thomas C. Clark II pronounced them husband and wife at the ?auspicious? time of 2:22 p.m. (on Feb. 22), Kinsler said.
?It was perfect,? she said. ?Short and sweet. Exactly what I wanted.?
Slay sent a follow-up congratulatory tweet Friday afternoon.
The couple is planning a destination ceremony next month in Panama and a reception this summer in St. Louis.
?We?ll have to invite Mayor Slay to the reception,? Kinsler said.
