
19 Artist names were announced for the 2012 Honey Jam Barbados Showcase lineup at a press conference held at Divi Southwinds this past Tuesday!

Introduced as ?Wonder Women? in honour of major sponsor Wonder Bread, the excited young artists treated those in attendance to a little taste of what they can expect at the November 17 showcase.
It was also announced that 2 Honey Jam Barbados alums have been nominated for Barbados Music Awards ? Niki Nicole, who just released an original track titled ?Rising? for BEST NEW ARTIST and SOUL/R&B FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR and Malissa Alanna was nominated in three categories for ?BEST NEW ARTIST? ?MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR? and ?POP / ROCK/ ALTERNATIVE / COUNTRY ARTIST OF THE YEAR?.

Show producer Ebonnie Rowe outlined information on the 3 workshops offered free of charge to the artists ? a vocal and performance workshop with celebrity coach Elaine Overholt, a music industry information session featuring Cover Drive?s Amanda Reifer, 30 year industry veteran Paul Russell, and Universal Music Canada A&R Head Ivan Evidente who will remain in Barbados to take in the showcase. The U.S. Embassy is partnering with Honey Jam on the third workshop, featuring women?s entertainment mentoring guide author Thembisa Mshaka, a 20 year industry veteran.
Programme manager for the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation Chris Harper spoke to the artists about the importance of developing an entrepreneurial spirit, taking an active part in their careers, doing their homework and research, being able to recognize opportunities and taking advantage of as them as well as being proactive and creating their own. Being a musician himself, he was able to relate to what it takes for someone in the creative sector to succeed.
YWCA head Paige Bryan was in attendance with an information booth about the work the organisation is doing with women and girls. They are partnering with Honey Jam to promote their programmes, create awareness of the work of the organization among young women and encourage their participation.

Showcase host SLAM FM?s Caroline ?CiCi? Reid came out to support the artists and is excited about lineup, featuring many of the young women in on air interviews to promote their music and appearance at the Honey Jam showcase.
