The revelation came late in the article, when Healy describes the 39-year-old actor's role in the 2011 revival of Larry Kramer's HIV/AIDS crisis drama, "The Normal Heart." Wrote Healy: '"The Normal Heart" resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said." Though the Times didn't identify Parsons' partner, he has been romantically liked with art director Todd Spiewak (pictured).

"If I had thought I was 100 percent gay, would it have been a different experience for me?" Anderson, who was voted "Most Bizarre" and "Most Likely to Be Arrested" in high school, ponders. "Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It's possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys."

No. 1 Alabama whips Missouri 42-10

ST. LOUIS (AP) ? Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon gave top-ranked Alabama a pair of 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time this season and the duo combined for five scores in a soggy, weather-delayed 42-10 victory over Missouri on Saturday.

The defending national champion Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 SEC) led 21-0 late in the first quarter en route to their 10th straight victory, all by 19 or more points.

They did enough right after that to disappoint the few thousand fans who didn't leave for good during a 38-minute delay due to lightning. The Crimson Tide were awaiting the extra-point kick for a 28-0 cushion with 8:40 to go in the half after Yeldon's second scoring run when the game was halted.

Missouri's Marcus Murphy set a school single-season record with his fourth kick return for touchdown, a 98-yard kickoff return in the second quarter right after the weather delay. The Tigers (3-4, 0-4) have been outscored 126-55 in their first season in the SEC, and have been competitive to the finish in only last week's 19-15 loss at home to Vanderbilt

Top-ranked Alabama's biggest opponent was the elements. That was no contest, either.

Backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser, a redshirt freshman subbing for injured James Franklin, was 12 for 29 for 126 yards with two interceptions. Missouri, held to 129 total yards, has next weekend off and Franklin could return from a left knee strain at home against Kentucky Oct. 27.

Lacy had a career-best 177 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns, including a 73-yarder on the game's second snap, for his second 100-yard game of the year. Yeldon had 144 yards on 18 carries and two TDs, also his second time in triple digits this season.

Trent Richardson and Jalston Fowler each gained more than 100 yards at Mississippi last October.

Alabama remained interception-free on the year after AJ McCarron went 16 for 21 for 171 yards. McCarron showed his toughness, too, staying in the game with a quick wrap after his right shin made contact with defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson's helmet.

The game was halted after several lightning strikes around Faurot Field. The stands were evacuated just after Yeldon's 15-yard TD run ? the last 5 on a leap for the pylon.

Missouri got some momentum from the unexpected break, but not nearly enough. After play resumed with the extra-point kick, Murphy got the Tigers on the scoreboard with his record-setting kickoff return.

The Tigers were on the verge of slicing further into Alabama's cushion, advancing to the 8 at the end of the half off a fumbled snap by punter Cody Mandell. But Adrian Hubbard stripped Berkstresser on a sack and C.J. Mosley ended up with the ball at the Missouri 49 with two seconds left.

The Crimson Tide quickly took control of the game, converting a blocked punt by Brandon Collins with a 17-yard drive capped by Yeldon's 1-yard run to make it 21-0.

Lacy scored on the game's second snap, cutting back across the field and leaving Kenronte Walker grabbing air at the Missouri 40 on a 73-yard run. Alabama then capitalized on Vinnie Sunseri's second interception of the year, on a ball in and out of the arms of L'Damian Washington. Scientists identify mammal model of bladder regeneration

ScienceDaily (Oct. 12, 2012) ? While it is well known that starfish, zebrafish and salamanders can re-grow damaged limbs, scientists understand very little about the regenerative capabilities of mammals. Now, researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Institute for Regenerative Medicine report on the regenerative process that enables rats to re-grow their bladders within eight weeks.

In PLOS ONE, a peer-reviewed, online publication, the scientists characterize this unique model of bladder regeneration with the goal of applying what they learn to human patients.

"A better understanding of the regenerative process at the molecular and cellular level is a key to more rapid progress in applying regenerative medicine to help patients," said George Christ, Ph.D., senior researcher and professor of regenerative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist.

In a previous study by Christ's team, research in rats showed that when about 75 percent of the animals' bladders were removed, they were able to regenerate a complete functional bladder within eight weeks. The current study focused on how the regeneration occurs.

"There is very little data on the mechanisms involved in organ regeneration in mammals," said Christ. "To our knowledge, bladder regeneration holds a unique position -- there is no other mammalian organ capable of this type of regeneration."

The ability of the liver to grow in size when lobes are removed is sometimes referred to as regeneration, but this is a misnomer, said co-author Bryon Petersen, Ph.D., who was a professor of regenerative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist during the period the research occurred. Instead, through a proliferation of cells, the remaining tissue grows to compensate for the lost size. In contrast, the hallmark of true regeneration is following nature's "pattern" to exactly duplicate size, form and function, Petersen said.

"If we can understand the bladder's regenerative process, the hope is that we can prompt the regeneration of other organs and tissues where structure is important -- from the intestine and spinal cord to the heart," said Petersen.

The current study showed that the animals' bodies responded to injury by increasing the rate at which certain cells divided and grew. The most notable proliferative response occurred initially in the urothelium, the layer of tissue that lines the bladder.

As the proliferative activity in the bladder lining waned, it continued elsewhere: in the fibrous band (lamina propria) that separates the bladder lining from the bladder muscles and in the bladder muscle itself.

The researchers have several theories about how the process works, said Christ. One possibility is that cells in the bladder lining transition and become a type of stem cell that can proliferate throughout the bladder. Other theories are that cells in the bladder lining signal other cells to replicate and that injury prompts stem cells to arrive through the blood stream to repair the bladder damage.

In future studies, the scientists will work to identify the exact regenerative process and will expand the work into mice. The ability to breed mice that lack specific genes will enable the team to explore how genes and proteins may affect the regenerative process and possibly help identify therapies to prompt regeneration.

The research was supported by the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases under award number R21DK081832.

Co-researchers were Charles C. Peyton, M.D., lead author, David Burmeister, Ph.D., and Karl-Erik Andersson, M.D., Ph.D., of Wake Forest Baptist. Peterson is now at the University of Florida and an adjunct professor at Wake Forest Baptist.

Weather shatters county building window

CLEVELAND - A window in the newly-opened Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center shattered Thursday ? and weather is believed to be the cause.

A spokeswoman for the county said a single window facing southeast on the ninth floor of the building broke.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works has been notified and department personnel have contacted the Harmon Glass Company to assess the situation.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The politics of Bruce Springsteen
Springsteen's patriotism is a central part of his being. He describes it as an 'angry sort of patriotism,' something that he doesn?t want to cede to 'the Right side of the street.'
By Huw Beynon and Steve Davies / Red Pepper / October 12, 2012

LONDON -- On a cold, wet day towards the end of June, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band followed their eight pantechnicons into Manchester. They were there for the 39th leg of their North American and European tour, promoting Springsteen?s latest album Wrecking Ball.

After monsoon conditions all day, the rain stopped as the band took the stage of the Etihad stadium. This was the beginning of the great Bruce Springsteen show, part concert, part revivalist meeting, filled with theatricality and a fair amount of humoUr and pathos. The E Street big band sound provided a powerful backing to the lyrics of the 30 songs that filled the next three and a half hours.

At the start of the European tour, Springsteen explained how his deepest motivation "comes out of the house that I grew up in and the circumstances that were set up there, which is mirrored around the United States with the level of unemployment we have right now."

In that house in Freehold, New Jersey, Springsteen?s father worked intermittently at the Karagheusian Rug Mill (which left him partially deaf), the local bus garage and for a while at the county jail. Unemployment was frequent, however, and it destroyed his confidence and sense of worth, leaving his wife as the organizer of the family home.

This tension between bad work and no work has been a perennial theme in Springsteen?s writing, alongside a search for freedom and self-discovery. It also left him with a strong attachment to places and the memories stored up in them.

When the Giants? stadium in New Jersey was up for demolition, he sang the first version of "Wrecking Ball" at a farewell concert, developing the physical process of destruction into a brilliant metaphor of class violence and the "flat destruction of some American ideals and values." He sings of how "all our little victories and glories/ Have turned into parking lots." And he repeats the invocation: "Hold tight to your anger, and don?t fall to your fears."

In "Death of My Home Town," he sings of the place where he grew up:

The Marauders raided in the dark
And brought death to my home town
They destroyed our families, factories
And they took our homes
They left our bodies in the plains
The vultures picked our bones.

Roots

Springsteen is firmly rooted in the tradition of America?s great popular singer-songwriters. He writes of love, death and loss, loneliness, growing up, and work, but also of resistance and rebellion, much of it couched in religious metaphor about the search for the promised land within the American Dream. Narrative songs such as ?"Thunder Road" and "The River" stand comparison with the very best of popular songs but also cast a nod in the direction of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and John Steinbeck.

He has pursued this lineage as a conscious choice. He has read widely, sung with Pete Seeger, and recorded gospel music and labour and civil rights movement songs. The various themes are deliberately brought together in his latest album to "contextualise historically that this has happened before."

This is most notable in "We Are Alive" with its implicit reference to "The Ballad of Joe Hill." Here the spirits of the strikers killed in the 1877 transport strike in Maryland join with civil rights protesters killed in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963, and Mexican migrants currently dying in the southern desert:

We are alive
And though our bodies lie alone here in the dark
Our souls and spirits rise
To carry the fire and light the spark
To fight shoulder to shoulder and heart to heart
We are alive

Patriotism and classSpringsteen sings from the world of the U.S. manual working class. A world with union cards and union meeting halls; a world that has been taken apart over the past 30 years as industries have closed and many have been economic conscripts into imperial wars.

In giving voice to this, he calls upon elements of post-revolutionary, post-civil war America with a vision of a genuinely democratic working class republic -- something that has been stolen by the marauders, the robber barons and bankers, but which is somehow still lived out in the resilience of its working people.

This patriotism is a central part of his being. He describes it as an "angry sort of patriotism," something that he doesn?t want to cede to "the Right side of the street." This has often led to misunderstanding, as was the case with "Born in the USA." Deeply critical and acerbic about the America that came out of the Vietnam war, it was nevertheless -- with its anthemic chorus -- admired by Ronald Reagan.

Springsteen has become philosophical over such misinterpretations, recognizing that no artist has the "fascist power" to control the meaning of their words. It has led him to talk repeatedly of a dialogue with his audience. It is likely that a song on the current record, "We Take Care of Our Own," will spark such a conversation. Again it is rhetorical, holding the American ideal up to the mirror and suggesting that "the road of good intentions has gone dry as a bone."

In the U.S., where the flag is ever-present and the oath of allegiance spoken daily by children at school, it is easy to see why a fight over what it means to be "American" is a necessary plank of left politics. However, the tensions between the U.S. as revolutionary republic and imperial power are obvious.

If patriotism causes some problems, the class roots of his writings clearly provides him with a universal appeal. In 2010 at Hyde Park he opened with "London Calling," a tribute to Joe Strummer and the Clash, and he has recalled the 1970s and his affinity with punk and how easy it is to "forget that class was only tangentially touched upon in popular music... at the time."

It was noticeable that in the first European date of the tour in Seville, he spoke at length and in Spanish about how the workers were being made to pay for the crisis and saluting the indignados. The next day, the Andalucian UGT, the Spanish union federation, had a video of the speech on its website.

Defiance

Springsteen and the band have amassed a huge songbook, and while there is a range of musical styles and themes, the dark side of American life is never far from the surface. He celebrates the freedom of the streets ("We walk the way we want to walk/We talk the way we want to talk"), but the power of the police and the patrol car is never far away.

After New York City police shot dead an unarmed West African immigrant in 1999 he wrote the song "American Skin (41 Shots)" and in defiance of the NYPD played it at Madison Square Garden. In response they refused the normal courtesy escort for the band, called for a boycott of his shows and organized vociferous anti-Springsteen protests.

With the recession, and the death of his close friend Clarence Clemons, this darker side has taken the foreground. Enraged by the destruction of the material world of the working class, whereby "the banker man grows fatter, the working man grows thin," he goads them to

Bring on your wrecking ball
C?mon and take your best shot
Let me see what you?ve got
Bring on your wrecking ball

Because we will survive, and like the "Jack of all Trades,"
You use what you?ve got
And you learn to make do
You take the old, you make it new
If I had me a gun I?d find the
bastards and shoot ?em on sight

Music and politics

The contradiction involved in Springsteen, now a multi-millionaire, singing with the voice of the poor and oppressed, is obvious. He is not alone here but his resolution of the problem has been unique. His solution was to tour, to play to large stadium audiences, tell the stories and keep the flame alive.

He talks about singing with the band as his "job of work," and of the "hardcore work thing" shared by all the band members. On stage he will talk of the "foolishness of rock and roll." In a master class with young musicians he stressed the need to understand their art as being both intrinsically trivial and "more important than death itself."

While cynics would say that he does all this for the money, and he would agree that the money is important, there is more to it than that. This was made clear when Michael Sandel selected a Springsteen concert as one example of "What Money Can?t Buy" in his new book on the moral limits of markets.

Criticising economists in the U.S., who have argued that the band could net an additional ?4 million for every concert with the "correct" pricing policy, Sandel points out that pricing out the people who understand and want to listen to and sing with the songs would change the nature of the concert, making it worthless.

Given his celebrity status, it is difficult to see how Springsteen can keep in touch with life on the streets and retain the voice to sing in the way he does. When asked, he talks of remaining "interested and awake." He is wary of formal politics and though he had clear hopes for the Obama administration -- he played at the inauguration (see below) -- his disappointment is palpable. He has been energized by the Occupy Wall Street movement and has hopes that this can change the "national conversation," focusing it on inequality for the first time for 30 years.

Wrecking Ball is his contribution to this conversation.

Bruce Springsteen and Pete Singer, left, sing "This Land is Your Land" at the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama. Photo by Mandel Ngan / AFP / Getty Images.

Playing for the president

Bruce Springsteen long avoided commenting on White House politics after Ronald Reagan famously misappropriated "Born in the USA" during his reelection campaign. The president ignored the song?s searing critique to claim it contained "a message of hope" that he would make reality if reelected. At the time Springsteen described it as a "manipulation."

George W Bush and the Iraq War caused him to re-think. In 2004 he backed the Democratic candidate, John Kerry, playing 33 concerts as part of the "Vote for Change" tour. He wrote that "for the last 25 years I have always stayed one step away from partisan politics. This year, however, for many of us the stakes have risen too high to sit this election out."

After Bush?s re-election Springsteen became an increasingly outspoken critic. In response to Hurricane Katrina he adapted Blind Alfred Reed?s protest song about the Great Depression, "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live?," transposing the original character of the song?s charlatan doctor onto Bush. He dedicated it to "President Bystander."

Springsteen publicly backed Obama when the future president was still battling Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. He enthused: "After the terrible damage done over the past eight years, a great American reclamation project needs to be undertaken. I believe that Senator Obama is the best candidate to lead that project." Springsteen played at several election rallies -- and the president?s inauguration concert.

To coincide with the inauguration he released the upbeat album Working on a Dream. The title track echoed that of Obama?s autobiography Dreams from My Father. But the album itself lacked direction. The new cheery Bruce had lost his distinctive voice.

Wrecking Ball has seen Springsteen reclaim old territory. As he acknowledged at a press conference in Paris, "You can never go wrong with pissed off and rock ?n? roll," and these songs are angrier than anything he?s penned before. Some of that anger is clearly directed at Obama.

Springsteen was only cautiously critical of the president in Paris: "He kept General Motors alive, he got through healthcare -- though not the public system I would have wanted... But big business still has too much say in government and there have not been as many middle or working class voices in the administration as I expected. I thought Guantanamo would have been closed by now." His music, however, offers a far more damning assessment. The single ?We Take Care of Our Own? tackles not only Obama?s America but also Springsteen?s involvement in party politics:

???I been knocking on the door that holds the throne,
???I been stumbling on good hearts turned to stone,
???The road of good intentions has gone dry as a bone

Springsteen has said he?ll be staying on the sidelines during the 2012 election, commenting that ?the artist is supposed to be the canary in the cage?. That hasn?t stopped the Obama campaign putting ?We Take Care of Our Own? on the official ?campaign soundtrack?. It seems that Obama, like Reagan, recognises the power of Springsteen?s critical patriotism, even if he fails to recognise its critique.

Its when a living thing exercises with objects for an example weight lifting.?How can and why should you test your fitness? You should test your strength because so then you know what level you are.?What types of fitness test have you used? ?You use weight lifting push ups and etc.How did you do these tests?I tested these by doing burpees push ups and sit-ups and we measure how long I can stretch my hand.?How can we compare our results with other people? We can compare this by seeing what you have improve before and after.

PST: Rating the US men's central midfielders

Even if we had to make a tough call on where to slot Jozy Altidore, the forwards were easy, but as we track back in through the U.S. Men?s national team formation, things get tougher.

We?re also not doing ourselves any favors with our depth charts. Because there seems to be two distinctly different classes of midfielders in Jurgen Klinsmann?s team, we?re breaking the position up. Later we?ll post the central midfielders? depth chart, while now, we?re posting the ?other? guys.

I note ?other? because it?s hard to come up with a good way to describe them. They?re basically players who are less-likely to compete with the Bradleys, Joneses, and Edus for time. Sometimes they?re deployed wide while on the same level, but most of the time they?re in more advanced positions, usually (but not always) wider.

We?re calling them attackers, but expect this caveat to appear in every update: Here, ?attacking? is synonymous with ?other?.

But before all those caveats suck the fun out of this exercise, let?s get to the depth chart, one with a familiar name at the top.

1. Landon Donovan, 30, LA Galaxy

Graham Zusi?s performance in Columbus showed how much Landon Donovan?s been missed, if ironically so. While Zusi performed well against Jamaica (forming a nice tandem with Steve Cherundolo down the right), that?s standard fare for Donovan, who is also capable of adding a touch of the spectacular with a dash of the heroic. Jurgen Klinsmann?s rarely had Donovan and Clint Dempsey at his disposal. He won?t this week, either.

2. Graham Zusi, 26, Sporting Kansas City

So what if he?s not Donovan? He?s still somebody the program?s coming to trust. He didn?t start in Kingston, but inserted into the starting XI to provide some attacking nous in Ohio, Zusi stepped up. It?s a clich? (saying somebody ?stepped up?), but it?s also something other players have failed to do ? make an impact when they finally get their chance. Thanks to that impact, the U.S. should be in decent shape this week, with Zusi again filling in for Landon Donovan.

3. Brek Shea, 22, FC Dallas

Shea is the only true wide attacker regularly used by Klinsmann ? somebody that wide week-in, week-out plays wide for both club and country. Like Donovan, Shea will miss this week?s qualifiers, eliminated from consideration after U.S. Soccer doctors deemed him unfit to go. Although fan opinion is mixed on the FC Dallas star?s effectiveness, he represents a meaningful way to change things should the attack falter. He will be missed.

4. Jose Torres, 24, Pachuca (Mexico)

Torres is another of Klinsmann?s ?other? midfielders who?s injured, though after his performance last break, it?s unclear he?ll be missed. Torres has received plenty of chances to assert his place in the team and has consistently given lackluster performances. Klinsmann, however, may see things differently. When things needed to be changed after Kingston, Torres was one of the answers. The reviews may be mixed, but the boss?s loyalty has yet to waver.

5. Joe Corona, 22, Tijuana (Mexico)

You get the feeling Corona is inching closer to playing time, but with the senior team, he?s yet to see meaningful minutes. But by now, the Tijuana attacker is a consistent presence in Klinsmann?s squads, his strong performance for the U-23s helping to solidify his place in the setup. While he?s not a wide player in the mold of Shea, Corona often plays on the flank for Xolos. With few other options on the bench, Klinsmann may turn to Corona this week when he looks to change things up.

6. Sacha Kljestan, 27, Anderlecht (Belgium)

He may spend most of his time playing near central midfielder Lucas Biglia in Belgium, but given the U.S. squad?s strengths, if Sacha?s going to make an impact, it?s likely going to be in another spot. His versatility allows him to be used in a more attacking role ? in wider areas, if need be. It?s part of the reason why many felt Kljestan should have been called up for previous qualifiers.

7. Josh Gatt, 21, Molde (Norway)

Like Eddie Johnson and Alan Gordon this week, Josh Gatt was recalled for tactical reasons against Jamaica, though an injury kept him from playing (what?s with all the injuries to U.S. attacking midfielders?). Plus speed makes it likely Gatt will be recalled for future qualifiers, depending on this opponent. This year in Norway, he?s already doubled the scoring output of last year?s Tippeligaen debut. His six goals in 16 appearances are third on Molde?s league-leading squad.

8. Mix Diskerud, 22, Rosenburg (Norway)

Diskerud?s back in Norway after an unsuccessful spell in Belgium, one that did little to help his quest to break into the senior national team. Although he was a big part of the U-23 side that failed to qualify for London, Mix has yet to appear for the senior squad in a full international. Lately, he?s flirted with the idea of playing for Norway, having been born in Oslo. While the Norwegians seem keen on getting Diskerud capped, Klinsmann ise taking a more straight-up approach. He?s not calling Diskerud in just to lock him down.

9. DaMarcus Beasley, 30, Puebla (Mexico)

If the U.S. lacks wide players, Beasley?s an option, and while it seems like the veteran would be a reach, he was called in for the win at Azteca. Being based in Mexico may have helped, but it was also a chance to get on Jurgen Klinsmann?s radar. A veteran of three World Cups, Beasley?s not completely out of the picture for a fourth.

10. Benny Feilhaber, 27, New England Revolution

Feilhaber hasn?t been called in since January?s camp, a sad step back from somebody who was automatic under Bob Bradley. Watching him for New England, it?s not hard to understand why. Feilhaber?s been good, not great, and it?s unclear where exactly he?d play for Klinsmann. As he moves to being a more central option for Jay Heaps, Feilhaber looks more and more like somebody who will be competing against some locked-in players on for the national team.

Vegan recipe: Wholesome, healthy sandwich in 5 minutes ? From ...

Five minutes is all you need to put a wholesome, healthy and vegan sandwich together at home. Here is my ridiculously simple recipe.

?

What you need (serve 1):

Alfalfa sprouts, green pepper, tomato, avocado, marinated tofu and whole wheat bread

Wholesome, homemade vegan sandwich

?

Method:

Toast your bread while you cut a quarter of green pepper, half a tomato and half an avocado. I bought my marinated tofu from the local grocery store Wellcome for only HK$10 (US$1.20) and that last me for around 3 meals (no joke), not to mention it tasted fantastic. They are pretty good size, so you only need to put? around 3 pieces of tofu in each sandwich.

Once the whole wheat bread popped out from the toaster, spread some Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread on it. Grab a handful of alfalfa sprouts, squeeze some mustard or Vegenaise (vegan version of mayonnaise), then put the rest of the ingredients to make your wholesome, vegan sandwich.

?

Warning:

Extremely filling, but delightfully delicious that will get you hooked.

Rosmah Mansor on Business Ethics

?Ultimately, ethics is about doing the right thing; not taking that which isn?t yours; not inflating expenses that you are not entitled to; not manipulating facts and figures with the intention to mislead; not compromising on quality of services and products to maximise profits; and not lying and misrepresenting the truth to look good.??Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor

Bernama reports:

DOHA: The wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Rosmah Mansor, yesterday urged women to take a more active role in their institutions and organisations in order to strengthen business ethics.

She said women could play an important role in strengthening ethics in business because their nature of being mothers and nurturers required that they imbued trust in the relationship they built and developed.

?As mothers, we have a responsibility and opportunity to imbue the right values and inculcate morally sound behaviour in our children. These are values and behaviours which will make them ethical people.Further, our roles that include multi-tasking between the home and the workplace demands that we deliver promises to the people who depend and count on us,? she said in a keynote address titled ?Role of Women in Strengthening Business Ethics? at the Qatari Businesswomen Association?s programme at the Inside Investor Forum Asia 2012, here.

The two-day forum from Monday, organised by the international media group and consultancy, Inside Investor, is a high-level business event which brings together heads of state, investors and top-level company executives from the ASEAN and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to identify investment opportunities in the two regions.

Rosmah said women should extend these qualities in ensuring that the companies they worked for delivered on their promises and upheld governance and ethics at all levels of the organisation at all times.

She said the rising participation of women in the global workforce also provided an opportunity for women to play a bigger role in strengthening business ethics.

?There are many reports that predict the 21st Century as the century for women. We see rising involvement of women in boardrooms and executive positions globally.

?In March 2012, Business Insider revealed that women hold 21% of senior management positions globally. This study shows that women are in an advantageous position to strengthen ethics in business,? she said.

Rosmah said that in Malaysia, the government was also encouraging companies to increase the number of women on their governing boards to at least 30% by 2015 and, currently, on-the-job training programmes ? most of it focused on strengthening ethics in business ? were being held to prepare these women for board positions.

Rosmah said business ethics was important to the company, the consumer as well as the employees and stakeholders, and for the healthy growth of an economy.

?Ultimately, ethics is about doing the right thing; not taking that which isn?t yours; not inflating expenses that you are not entitled to; not manipulating facts and figures with the intention to mislead; not compromising on quality of services and products to maximise profits; and not lying and misrepresenting the truth to look good,? she said.

Those who did not follow ethical rules might have short-term success, but would fail in the market in the long run, she added.

Rosmah said Qatari and Malaysian businesswomen associations could develop a common platform for debates and deliberations on business ethics for insights, learning and sharing experiences.

?We could organise joint programmes regularly that mutually serve both the Gulf and ASEAN. These could include educational and business programmes as well as exchange of talents that will strengthen business ethics in both regions,? she said.

Meanwhile, in a separate event, Rosmah received the ?Honour for Charitable Commitment and Philanthropy? award in appreciation of her dedication and commitment to charity work.

The award was presented by the Vice-Chairwoman of the Qatari Businesswomen Association, Aisha Al-Fardan.

We Tried It: Brazilian Butt Lift with Leandro Carvalho - Shape

If you are looking for a way to sculpt and shape your booty without surgery, we have the workout for you!

I mentioned in a previous post that one of my coworkers and I had the opportunity to visit Atlantic City for a new three-day health and fitness expo called Sweat AC. In addition to attending media roundtables, we had the opportunity to try a bunch of classes, one of which was celebrity trainer Leandro Carvalho's "Brazilian Butt Lift." As the trainer who whips the Victoria's Secret angels into shape before the annual VS fashion show, Carvalho has quite an impressive roster of clients who swear by his work, and for good reason?it works!

When it comes to bodyweight workouts, Carvalho's fits in somewhere between a Zumba class and a traditional bootcamp. There were squats and jumping squats, as well as dance moves and jumping jacks. We used almost no equipment except for a hand towel, which we placed on the floor to step on during certain moves such as lunges to challenge our muscles (paper towels and sliders work just as well. If you're looking to take your workout up a notch, check out this paper plate workout). We kept moving the entire time, and by the end of the class my lower body was burning.

Want to see the workout in action yourself? Check out this video below of Carvalho working with supermodel Alessandria Ambrosio before last year's VS fashion show.

Conservatives remind Romney of abortion pledge

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) ? A day after Mitt Romney downplayed his plans to fight abortion, social conservatives on Wednesday offered the Republican presidential nominee a not-so-subtle reminder of his pledge to do "everything in my power to cultivate, promote, and support a culture of life in America."

The head of the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List distributed an article Romney penned last summer vowing to prohibit federal funding for Planned Parenthood, while backing legislation that would "protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion." In the June 2011 article, Romney also expressed support for the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion.

"We have full confidence that as president, Gov. Romney will stand by the pro-life commitments," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

In an interview Tuesday with The Des Moines Register, Romney said he would not pursue any abortion-related legislation if elected.

"There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," he told the Iowa newspaper, an apparent shift from his previous position.

The Republican's campaign walked back his comments almost immediately. "Gov. Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life," spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. She declined to elaborate.

Romney himself returned to the topic of abortion when he said after an event Wednesday in Delaware, Ohio: "I think I've said time and again that I'm a pro-life candidate and I'll be a pro-life president."

President Barack Obama jumped on the comments about abortion, saying the words showed that Romney was trying to hide his position in abortion in an attempt to close the deal with voters.

"This is another example of Gov. Romney hiding positions he's been campaigning on for a year and a half," Obama told ABC News for an interview that aired Wednesday.

"When it comes to women's rights to control their own health care decisions, you know, what he has been saying is exactly what he believes," said Obama. Romney "thinks that it is appropriate for politicians to inject themselves in those decisions."

Romney has struggled with the issue of abortion throughout his political career.

It was an issue in his 1994 Senate campaign against Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who described Romney's abortion position as "multiple choice." Romney supported abortion rights when he became governor of Massachusetts in 2003, before changing his mind. As a presidential candidate, he opposes all abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother.

Now, less than a month before Election Day, he's trying to avoid the issue as he simultaneously courts women and his party's most passionate voters ? groups with opposing priorities on the explosive social issue. In recent days, he's largely emphasized his personal side and moderate political positions.

While he said he would oppose abortion-related legislation, the former governor told the Register he would issue an executive order to reinstate the so-called Mexico City policy. Named for the city where it was announced, the policy bans giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide abortion information. The policy has bounced in an out of law for more than a quarter-century. President Barack Obama waived the order soon after taking office in 2009.

Hogan Gidley, a former aide to Rick Santorum, a stanch social conservative who challenged Romney during the GOP primaries, said Romney's latest abortion flap is "bad news and good news."

"The bad news is that pro-life conservatives want a president to push policies that protect the innocent, unborn children from being murdered. But the good news is that Gov. Romney has pledged to reinstitute the Mexico City policy by executive order," Gidley said. "This will be of little consolation for many pro-lifers ? but the alternative of Barack Obama is much worse."

Obama's deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter told reporters on a conference call Wednesday that Romney was "cynically and dishonestly" hiding his positions on abortion and other women's issues to try to seal the deal with voters.

"We're not saying he's changed his mind on these issues," Cutter said. "We're saying he's trying to cover up his beliefs."

Cutter said the campaign would seek to make sure that women are "not fooled" by Romney's attempts to soften his positions on abortion. The Democrat's campaign has aired TV ads accusing Romney of supporting overturning Roe v. Wade and eliminating federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

"Women frankly just can't trust Mitt Romney," Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said on the Obama campaign call. Richards said she was taking a break from her role at the women's health services provider to volunteer for Obama in the campaign's closing weeks.

Romney did not seek to clarify his abortion comments during a day of campaigning Wednesday in Ohio. He noted at a town hall-style meeting that his wife, Ann, and Karen Buchwald Wright, the businesswoman who helped introduce him, were breast cancer survivors.

"Karen was kind to remind me that this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and gave me this pin, which I am wearing this morning in her honor and the honor of my wife and in honor of all the women across America who have battled this terrible disease and know of our commitment to defeat it and to provide long lives to our fellow citizens," Romney said.

Romney called the women "champions."
